Initiatives

Active Flag

The Active Flag is a Department of Education initiative, supported by Healthy Ireland, that aims to get more schools, more active, more often. It is awarded to schools working towards a physically educated and physically active school community.

We were awarded our first Active Flag in 2016, our second in 2019 and our third in 2022.

Amber Flag

The Amber Flag, run by Pieta, encourages schools to promote positive mental health and to build a culture where mental health is talked about and supported. It recognises the good work already happening in schools with an award.

Green Flag

We have been awarded six Green Flags by An Taisce’s Green-Schools programme, in recognition of work by pupils, staff and parents to improve our environment.

Our flags cover energy, waste, water, transport, biodiversity and, most recently, Global Citizenship. We were the first school in West Cork to be awarded the Global Citizenship flag.

Yellow Flag

Yellow Flag

Through the Yellow Flag programme, pupils, staff and the wider school community learn more about their own and others’ cultures, celebrate the cultural diversity in our school, and learn more about treating people fairly.

The Yellow Flag shows that we are a school that values cultural diversity.
